Folk omens February 26: avoid loneliness

February 26 in the folk calendar is Martynov’s Day, and also this year the last day of Shrovetide, which has many names – Seeing Off, Forgiveness Day, Forgiveness Sunday, Tselovalnik.

On the last day of Maslenitsa, a straw effigy, made on the first day of Maslenitsa week, was put on a sleigh and taken to the main place of the festivities. They danced around it, sang songs, and then burned it on a huge fire, into which pancakes and other remnants of festive food were thrown. The ashes left from the scarecrow were scattered over the fields – it was believed that this would contribute to a rich harvest.

For the Orthodox, this is the day of purification before the start of Lent. They ask for forgiveness from their relatives and friends for all the grief, trouble, for voluntarily and involuntarily inflicted grievances. And in Rus’ it was believed that a bath would help cleanse the body and soul of all evil, so they steamed especially hard that day.

At night on Martynov’s day, they went out into the street and called out to the stars – to add vigilance to the eyes and protect themselves from eye diseases. And if there were serious problems in life that could not be dealt with, looking at the sky, they called out the names of their dead ancestors – ours believed that they could come to the rescue and get rid of troubles.

On this day, you should put things in order both in the house and in your affairs and thoughts so that the whole year goes well. But the manifestation of laziness – both of the body and mind – threatens with financial problems.

Martynov’s day is also good for solving financial issues, but it is better to postpone large purchases for later.

For peace, prosperity and happiness in life, you should not spend this day alone – invite guests, meet friends or just visit a crowded place.

Do not swear and do not enter into conflicts – this can have a bad effect on your affairs in all areas.

Do not refuse alms and help to those in need – otherwise a black streak will come in your life.

Also, according to popular signs, doing needlework on this day is a sign of eye diseases, and if you cut your hair or dye your hair, your hair will grow poorly.

Natural signs on February 26 are as follows:

– if the snow began to melt – by early and warm spring;

– if the day is cloudy and cool – the spring will be cold and protracted;

– if the forest seems to have turned gray – to frost;

– if the animals sneeze – to a change in the weather.

Dreams that occurred on the night of February 27 are considered prophetic. They can indicate what you need to change in yourself in order to achieve good luck.
