Live larvae of flies were removed by Moscow doctors from the ear of a one-year-old baby. Unpleasant guests managed to damage the eardrum.
As MK managed to find out, some time ago, in the Children’s Hospital No. G.N. Speransky hospitalized a one-year-old girl with purulent otitis media. Little Dasha (name changed) had been ill for two weeks and couldn’t get better. Otolaryngologists began to wash the right ear from pus and were surprised to find that something was moving inside. Upon closer examination, it turned out that these were fly larvae. The doctor first removed one larva, and then two more. When talking with the mother, it turned out that the “passengers” got out of the child’s ear in the morning, before hospitalization.
According to the updated diagnosis, the baby suffered not only from purulent otitis media, but also from otomiasis. This is a parasitic disease in which flies, most often meat flies, lay larvae in the human external auditory canal. It is no coincidence that insects choose this secluded place – they like warm places with signs of decay, so that they can lay eggs subcutaneously there. The larvae, which have chosen the ear of a small patient, managed to damage the eardrum. Fortunately, she recovers within 3-5 days.
After the uninvited guests were expelled, the child was prescribed an ear toilet with antiseptics and laid turundas (tampons made of cotton or gauze) with medicinal substances. In less than a week, the girl made a full recovery and was discharged home.
