The Tanzanian publication Citizen reported, citing the local Ministry of Health, that an unknown infectious disease had been identified in the northwest. Deaths have already been noted, and a rapid response team has been dispatched to the affected areas.

“The Ministry of Health has issued a warning about an unknown disease that has so far killed five people in Bukoba,” the publication said on its Twitter account.

Those infected are reported to suffer from fever, vomiting, bleeding, and liver failure. Currently, doctors have identified the corresponding symptoms in seven people.

So far, only the fact that it is infectious is relatively confident about the nature of the disease; specialists are working to identify the pathogen.
