Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko urged Russians to stop buying new jeans every season. According to her, this is necessary due to the fact that too much water is spent in the production of jeans.
“Please don’t buy new jeans every season! You can walk long enough in the same jeans or somehow reanimate them,” said Ms. Abramchenko on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.
Victoria Abramchenko, who oversees the national project “Ecology” in the government, clarified that people need to think about how they will dispose of a product or its packaging before buying something. She added that more than 50% of the bin is occupied by packaging from various goods.
According to the deputy chairman of the Russian government, she practices conscious consumption for the sake of the environment and advises everyone to follow her example.
Formerly Mrs. Abramchenko informedthat Russia will start phasing out single-use plastic products and packaging from 2025. According to her, this refusal will be gradual and will take place in several stages. In the fall of 2022, Mrs. Abramchenko instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources work out options for introducing restrictions on the use of difficult-to-recycle plastic materials in two regions of Russia – the Krasnodar Territory and the Crimea.
