According to Headhunter labor law expert Tatyana Nechaeva, it will not be profitable for Russians to take a vacation in May due to a decrease in the number of working days due to holidays.
“From a financial point of view, May is not the best time for vacation, since the more working days in a month and the fewer holidays, the higher the amount of vacation pay. Holidays are not taken into account when calculating vacation, with the exception of days off that do not fall on holidays” , – Nechaeva explained.
She explained that if the May holidays were included in the vacation, only May 1 and May 9 would not be counted, extending the vacation period by two days. The remaining weekends in May are added to the holidays and do not increase the duration of the vacation.
“The amount of vacation pay depends on the ratio of working and non-working days in a month: the more of the first and less of the second, the greater the remuneration for vacation. Therefore, if you work a five-day week, the most profitable months for vacation are July (23 working days), August ( 22 working days) or October (23 working days),” the expert added.
Nechaeva also recalled that the employer is obliged to pay an employee for work on a non-working holiday and provide an additional day off or double salary for this day.
