Telegram messenger creator Pavel Durov informed subscribers of their channel that all phones on which the WhatsApp application is installed may have been attacked by hackers after the last update of the program.

According to him, hackers could gain full access to all the contents of WhatsApp users’ phones, thanks to a security issue that was reported by the messenger itself last week.

“All a hacker had to do to gain access to your phone was send you a malicious video or start a WhatsApp video call with you,” Durov wrote.

He recalled that similar security problems were found in WhatsApp annually, starting in 2017, and until 2016, the messenger had no encryption at all.

“Every year we learn about a problem in WhatsApp that puts all users’ devices at risk. This means that there is almost certainly a new security hole already there. Such problems are hardly accidental – they are planted by backdoors … That’s why “I removed WhatsApp from my device years ago. Installing it creates a door to enter your phone,” Durov added.
