The capital’s Simonovsky Court sentenced three doctors from the notorious Medicine 24/7 clinic on Monday. Doctors were sentenced to correctional labor for the death of a patient who died of a heart attack. As MK reported at the time, the tragedy occurred in July 2019. An 83-year-old woman complained of heart pain, but did not go to a state hospital, but preferred to go to a commercial clinic located on Avtozavodskaya Street. However, they did not help her there, limiting herself to a cardiogram. Moreover, when the relatives tried to transport the pensioner to a regular hospital, the clinic staff refused to let the grandmother go, essentially taking her hostage. With difficulty, the woman was taken out of the commercial medical institution, but time was lost, and already in the City Clinical Hospital. Pirogov’s patient died.
The story was made public through the media, after which it became clear that such practices at the Medicine 24/7 clinic were widespread. Several citizens whose relatives died in this hospital told how they were not given documents and in every possible way prevented the transfer of patients to other hospitals. Among the victims were the relatives of television producer Vladimir Artsibashev, the brother of the famous theater director Sergei Artsibashev, who also died in this establishment. They sued the management of Medicine 24/7 for substantial compensation. Roszdravnadzor became interested in the clinic. It turned out that the hospital did not comply with the rules for providing cardiac care to patients. In connection with the death of the pensioner, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Article 238 Part 2 of the Criminal Code – “Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in death.”
The clinic’s chief doctor went abroad, and three doctors had to bear responsibility for the woman’s death. The head of the intensive care unit, Ruslan Pavlov, and anesthesiologist Pavel Naumov received 3 years of correctional labor with a deduction of 10% of their wages; another trainee doctor, Andrei Zimin, was sentenced to 2 years of suspended imprisonment. Both sides were dissatisfied with this verdict: the relatives of the pensioners clearly expected a more severe punishment, and the lawyers of the convicted believe that their guilt has not been proven.
