The deputy head of the Kultura TV channel, Alexander Efimovich, announced the death at the age of 87 of the well-known Soviet and Russian television journalist, Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR Bella Kurkova.
According to Efimovich, the journalist died at night in a hospital in St. Petersburg after a serious illness.
“The funeral and farewell will take place on Saturday,” Efimovich added, noting that exact information about the place and time will be later.
Bella Kurkova has been working on Leningrad television since 1968, and in 1988 she created the Fifth Wheel program and became its editor-in-chief. This program was very popular during the Perestroika years. Kurkova was a supporter of the mayor of St. Petersburg, Anatoly Sobchak, and with the support of the Democratic Elections-90 bloc, she became a people’s deputy of the RSFSR.
Later she worked as director of the St. Petersburg directorate of the Kultura channel.
