Details of the scandal associated with the heroic emergency landing of an Airbus in a wheat field in the Novosibirsk region became known to MK. According to our information, crew commander Sergei Belov and co-pilot Eduard Semenov received an offer to resign of their own free will about 10 days ago. In fact, the airline decided to get rid of unnecessary workers without even waiting for the conclusion of the commission, which is still working. All this time, the pilots are between heaven and earth – they are not on vacation and are not allowed to fly, which is already a violation of labor laws.
As MK previously reported, on September 12, an Airbus A320 plane flying from Sochi to Omsk made an emergency landing on a wheat field in the Novosibirsk region. Then, according to preliminary information, the plane’s hydraulic system failed. Judging by the conclusion of a special commission that worked for almost two months after the emergency, Sergei Belov was forced to make an emergency landing in a field due to weather conditions. There was strong wind and cloudiness at the Omsk airport. In addition, the runway in Omsk is 2.5 km long, while in Novosibirsk it is one kilometer longer and wider. The commander decided to fly to Novosibirsk. The recommendations say that in the event of a failure of engines or hydraulic systems, etc. the crew must fly to where there is a technical base. In principle, the choice was quite simple: land the plane in Omsk, blocking the runway completely, without technical personnel, and wait for the crew’s technicians to arrive and repair the plane. Or immediately fly to Novosibirsk, where there is a technical staff that will quickly eliminate all malfunctions.
The pilots sent a distress signal on the way to Novosibirsk when they realized that the fuel would last for 15-20 minutes. Although, judging by the commission’s report, they would have had enough fuel for about 40 minutes. The landing was successful, none of the passengers or crew were injured, but the plane’s engine blades were slightly damaged. Belov was the last to leave the plane until he was sure that everyone was on the ground. In fact, the crew accomplished a real feat – they saved the lives of more than a hundred people.
And then the showdown began: according to experts, the lack of fuel occurred precisely because of the pilot’s error. More specifically, the landing gear was not retracted, resulting in a fuel leak. But, according to the pilots, according to the display on the monitor, the landing gear was retracted, but the doors remained open. Apparently, the residual pressure that was in the hydraulic system lifted the wheels, but there was no longer enough pressure on the flaps. Perhaps the wheels did not fully fit into the “grooves,” which led to excessive fuel consumption and a forced landing.
Alas, the first commission considered the pilots’ decision to fly to Novosibirsk a mistake. But the Federal Air Transport Agency considered her work unsatisfactory. Now the second commission is working on this situation.
However, the airline’s management, without waiting for the specialists’ conclusions, considered it possible to ask the commander and co-pilot to resign. They themselves do not comment, but according to our information, Belov and Semenov refused to write a letter of resignation.
