David Lystsov from Zlatoust died in Israel at a music festival

Among our compatriots who died during the Hamas attack in Israel is David Lystsov, a native of the city of Zlatoust. He worked as security at the Nature Party music festival, which was one of the first to come under attack from militants. During the shooting, David covered his subordinate guards, who managed to survive. Only one of them was wounded. David himself died. He was only 34. His sister Ksenia told MK about him.
“David left for Israel with his father at the age of 14, my mother and I stayed in Zlatoust,” says his sister Ksenia. “At first, of course, it was hard for my brother in the new place, but gradually he adapted and learned the language. He had great willpower.
David lived in the north of the country, in the city of Kiryat Yam, which is part of the Krayot urban agglomeration. (Among the sister cities is our Kislovodsk).
— Many people knew him in Kiryat Yam. My brother was very kind, generous, and tried to help everyone. He started working as a simple security guard, then he opened his own business, he had his own security agency.
Ksenia and David were very friendly. Their age difference was only two years.
“We used to fly to him in Israel once, twice a year. He himself came to Zlatoust only once, in 2016. We haven’t been able to see each other for the past few years. The pandemic began, then a special operation in Ukraine. And this September we all gathered together in Turkey. There was no premonition that we would see each other for the last time. On the contrary, everyone was actively making plans for the future.
Ksenia says that none of them can understand how David, living in the north, ended up in the south, to guard the Nature Party music festival.
“Apparently, security guards were brought in from many regions. David went to the festival with his subordinates. My brother had a big car and he was driving.
The music festival Nature Party, dedicated to the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, took place in the open air at Kibbutz Reim. The border of the Gaza Strip was about five kilometers away.
Nature Party was one of the first to come under attack from Hamas. Eyewitnesses recalled that on October 7, at about six o’clock in the morning, sirens wailed about a missile launch. The music stopped and the electricity went out. And then all hell broke loose. Those present saw people in military uniform. The militants opened indiscriminate fire at those escaping.
“I recently talked to my brother’s girlfriend. New circumstances have emerged. During the Hamas attack, David was offered to hide; his brother had such an opportunity. But he said that he needed to save, to get his guys out.
David is a protector by nature. He found subordinates. They had no weapons. The guys decided to break out of the encirclement. In the car, he turned on the phone and was in touch with his girlfriend.
She said that she heard how they could not leave for half an hour. They said they saw a tank, motorcycles, and ATVs on which the militants were traveling. They were everywhere.
My brother and his colleagues didn’t know where to go. They were trapped. The ring was shrinking. Then they decided that we needed to break through. My brother was driving. When he saw the militants running towards him, he shouted to his subordinates to get out of the car. The attackers were aiming at the driver. The brother distracted them and died on the spot. Everyone else managed to escape, only one of his four guards was wounded.
David was listed as missing, and on October 9 it became known that he had died. David was identified by fingerprints.
When David was buried, a lot of people came.
“My brother was covered with an Israeli flag and was buried as a hero.
David did not live a month before his 35th birthday. He was divorced and left behind a seven-year-old son.
