The opening of the monument to Catherine’s favorite will coincide with Student’s Day

A monument to the first Minister of Education of Russia and favorite of Catherine II, Peter Vasilyevich Zavadovsky, will be erected in Moscow on International Students Day on November 17. The monument will appear on Golovinskoye Highway, opposite the building of the Academy of the Ministry of Education of Russia.
As MK was told at the Academy, the opening of the monument will be one of the ceremonial events dedicated to the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, which was declared this year. The sculptor of the monument is Ekaterina Koval, a student of Salavat Shcherbakov, the author of the monuments to St. Vladimir on Borovitsky Hill, the designer of small arms Mikhail Kalashnikov and other outstanding people. Ekaterina Koval herself is the author of the monument to customs officer Vereshchagin from the film “White Sun of the Desert,” installed in Fili in front of the building of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.
According to the author, she is now finishing work on a plaster model of the sculpture. After the customer accepts the work, pouring of the bust will begin. The finished sculpture will be a bronze monument on a black granite pedestal.
