Cynicism is off the charts: the mayor of Kharkov decided to build an underground school next to military factories

Now some Kharkov schoolchildren have been sent to study in the metro

The mayor of Kharkov announced his intention to build the country’s first underground school in the city. And not just anywhere, but in the Industrial district of the city – the most heavily shelled, since there are factories there that repair military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Why did the mayor choose this area for the “most advanced” educational institution? Perhaps because there are already some factory bunkers there, which they intend to use for these purposes.

According to the head of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov, it is planned to create an underground school, “which will meet the most modern regulatory requirements for protective structures.” In his opinion, such a shelter will allow thousands of Kharkov children to continue safe in-person education even during missile threats.

In general, the Kharkov mayor can be called a leader in the business of turning small townspeople into “children of the underground.” This is the only city in the country where on September 4 children went to school in the metro. Five stations were allocated for this purpose, where 17 classrooms were located.

Students come to classrooms with walls shaking from passing trains once a week, combining “face-to-face” learning underground with the online process from home. Up to a thousand Kharkov schoolchildren study in this format. A third of them are first-graders, a few are in grades 5-8, and one class of graduates who come to study in the metro in two shifts.

Enrollment in this metro school is voluntary, but the majority of Kharkov residents prefer the traditional educational process. Moreover, most classes in schools are held remotely. Let the children stay at home rather than expose themselves to danger next to high-voltage rails and trains that no one stops for the sake of schoolchildren. The educational process, however, does not take place at the stations themselves, but in utility rooms intended for underground workers. But you still can’t pass by the metro tracks.

Now the mayor is going to spend a considerable amount of money on creating a full-fledged bunker school. Moreover, in the most dangerous possible area of ​​the city. It is clear that the main motive of the authorities here is the development of the next chunk of the budget.
