Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that a repetition of the events of October 3-4, 1993 in Russia is impossible. He explained this by the level of consolidation of society around President Vladimir Putin. In his opinion, Russia “went through dark times and learned lessons” from those events.
“There are many dreamers, many ill-wishers, but I believe that the level of consolidation of our country around the president, the level of consolidation of the country as a whole, is probably the guarantee that a repetition of such situations is impossible,” Dmitry Peskov answered the question of how The Kremlin evaluates the position of those who want a repeat of the events of October 1993.
On October 3, 1993, the confrontation between President Boris Yeltsin and the Congress of People’s Deputies of Russia culminated. It ended with the dispersal of parliament, skirmishes in the center of Moscow and the shooting of the White House from tanks. The clashes on October 3 and 4 killed 124 people. 348 people were injured. These developments led to “step-by-step constitutional reform” with the adoption of a new Constitution in December.
