Construction of the largest digital camera in history for the ground-based telescope LSST is completed
Specialists from the National Accelerator Laboratory announced the completion of construction and testing of a digital camera comparable in size to a car. Its front lens has a diameter of more than one and a half meters. The camera weighs about three tons.
The 3.2 gigapixel resolution is high enough to detect a golf ball from 25 kilometers away.
The camera will be installed on the LSST telescope at the Vera Rubin Observatory. It will be used to observe distant galaxies and map the Milky Way, as well as other tasks in the field of astronomy.
