Senator Olga Kovitidi explained the amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation adopted today, according to which the concepts of “mobilization”, “martial law” and “wartime” are introduced into the code. Olga Kovitidi is a co-author of these amendments. He explained that mobilization was not announced in Russia, the amendments refer to the period of martial law.
“Today, there are a lot of annotations that a law on mobilization has been adopted. No. As far as this law is concerned, mobilization has not been announced in the country. Toughening (about deprivation of liberty) takes place only during wartime, martial law. When the situation is more stable, then these tough measures, tough enough, will not be applied,” one of the drafters of the document, Ms. Kovitidi, said live on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
According to the amendments adopted by the State Duma:
- In case of voluntary surrender (Article 352.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) – imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years, in case of looting (Article 356.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) – up to 15 years.
- In case of unauthorized abandonment of a unit during mobilization and martial law (Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation): from 2 to 10 days – up to 5 years, for a period of 10 days to a month – up to 7 years, for a period of more than a month – from 5 to 10 years conclusions.
- Citizens of Russia called up for military training, who are in reserve, will be criminally liable for failure to appear or desertion on an equal basis with contract soldiers and conscripts.
