Students will improve their IT competencies

Project management, development of engineering and IT network applications using popular programming languages, working with Big Data… These are just a few of the competencies that university graduates applying for jobs in the largest Russian manufacturing enterprises should have.

NUST MISIS specialists, together with their business partners, have compiled a list of IT competencies required for university graduates to work in leading industry companies. In order for the guys to get such competencies and applied skills, a special “Digital Department” is being created on the basis of the university.

Students of all faculties of the university will be able to study on it. However, for different areas of training developed its own program. So, for those who study at the Institute of Information Technology and Computer Science, the program “Design and Development of Network Applications” has been prepared. Her task is to deepen knowledge and skills in IT. For economists and linguists, the course “Algorithmization and project management in a company” has been created. It will give young professionals the necessary skills in the basics of programming and project management. Materials scientists, mining engineers and metallurgists will be able to gain knowledge in the field of engineering application development tools. By the way, their training will be as “practically oriented” as possible: 20 percent of the time is supposed to be devoted to master classes and seminars – they will be taught by teachers and business experts, another 20 percent will be devoted to practice in leading IT companies or their industry divisions. All children who complete such training will receive state certificates of additional professional education.

According to Sergey Salikhov, First Vice-Rector of MISIS University, the university is well aware of how important IT competencies are for training a modern professional demanded by business.

“That’s why we worked closely with our industry partners to develop the programs and identify their real needs. The “Digital Department” will provide even more opportunities for professional training of students, strengthening their knowledge and skills in the field of information technology and computer science. This will help graduates become more competitive in the labor market,” Sergey Salikhov said.
