Chukotka conducted the first test flights of drones for mail delivery

The BAS Consortium, a joint venture between Russian Post and SK Capital, has launched testing of unmanned aerial systems in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. This was reported to Vedomosti by representatives of the Consortium.
The first flights were carried out from Coal Mines to Anadyr, the capital of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. The Geoscan-401 device transported several test batches of mail between settlements as part of the Unmanned Air Cargo Delivery project.
The pilot regions of the project, in addition to Chukotka, will be the Kamchatka Territory, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. In the future, the geography of air delivery will expand to other regions where experimental legal regimes operate.
“Traditional manned aircraft are often not ready to transport small consignments with high frequency. It is unmanned aircraft systems that will solve this problem,” said Denis Baryshnikov, General Director of the BAS Consortium.
The use of drones will increase the frequency of transportation of mail between regions and will allow in the future to increase the volume of cargo transportation by more than 10 times, according to Russian Post. At the same time, the cost of logistics services should be reduced by up to 50%.
