Chinese man hid in cave for 14 years after gas station robbery

A Chinese resident who robbed a gas station back in 2009 and stole 156 yuan (about 1.7 thousand rubles) hid from the police in a cave in a remote mountainous area for 14 years. Oddity Central tells about an unusual story.
Liu Moufu, from a village in the Chinese province of Hubei, robbed a gas station that year, along with his brother-in-law and another accomplice. Soon, the police tracked down both of Moufu’s accomplices and arrested them. The 36-year-old man decided to hide in order to avoid prison. And he successfully hid for 14 years, settling in a small karst cave. Sometimes a man entered the village to steal potatoes or meat, and also to see his parents and wife.
Cautious Moufu came home only during major festivals, when a crowd of local residents gathered in the square.
Over time, it became increasingly difficult for the Chinese to put up with loneliness and constant stress. In the end, the man decided to give up. “I have such a sweet grandson. I want to live a normal life!” – said the Chinese, surrendering to the police.
Under Chinese law, Mouf will have to be punished and spend at least three years behind bars. And since a weapon was used during the robbery, he could face up to ten years in prison.
