The State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation recommended adopting the first reading of changes to the law on detention (Article 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation). The amendments imply the arrest of suspects and accused of committing crimes of medium gravity only if the crime is of a violent nature, reports TASS. Project The Supreme Court introduced changes to the State Duma on June 15.
It is proposed to exclude imprisonment for a non-violent crime of moderate gravity for women who have young children. For a violent crime of moderate gravity, it is proposed to send people into custody only in exceptional cases – such an exception currently applies only to minors.
According to the text of the document, it is proposed to prohibit sending people with serious illnesses to pre-trial detention centers if they have medical confirmation.
