British scientists have promised to reproduce mammoths in five years

British scientists plan to recreate the woolly mammoth using DNA. Employees of the biotechnology company Coloccal Biosciences want to receive the first cub as early as 2028. The Daily Mail reports this.
According to the tabloid, scientists decided to crossbreed the genetic material of woolly mammoths discovered in permafrost with the DNA of Asian elephants. Company representatives do not provide details, but note that at a certain stage, a mammoth embryo can be implanted into the body of surrogate elephants.
Scientists expect the new animal to be a cold-hardy elephant with all the biological features of a woolly mammoth. “I am confident that we will have a very charismatic creature,” said the CEO of Coloccal Biosciences.
According to biotechnologists, born mammoths can be released into the tundra, and they will become wild again. For its ambitious project, the company came up with the slogan “The return of the woolly mammoth – the return of a better Earth.”
But not all colleagues think so. According to most biologists, the introduction of a new species into an existing ecosystem can lead to its imbalance.
