Britain asks police to look into Prince Andrew’s role in Epstein case

Republic, a campaign group campaigning for the abolition of the monarchy in the UK, said it had contacted police following the release of documents containing new details of sexual abuse allegations involving the Duke of York, Prince Andrew. A US court has published a list of people involved in the case of Jeffrey Epstein, a financier accused of trafficking children for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

According to the documents, one of the witnesses said he was present during a conversation between Epstein, his girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre. The latter claimed that she was raped by the Duke of York when she was 17 years old. Another witness claims Prince Andrew was on Epstein’s island.

An anonymous woman has filed a motion to join the civil suit, alleging that Prince Andrew gained access to her through Maxwell’s mediation. “We have just reported Andrew to the police. Court documents have revealed new details of sexual assault and rape allegations against him. It is time for the police to act,” Republic said on its social media page.

Epstein was charged with sex trafficking of minors, which carries up to 40 years in prison, and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking, which carries up to five years in prison. In early July 2019, a Manhattan court in New York ruled to keep him in custody without the right to bail. At the end of July, it became known that Epstein was found “semi-conscious” in his prison cell with injuries to his neck, and he later died. The investigation revealed that he committed suicide.
