The capital of Brazil has declared a state of emergency until January 30. Various rights of citizens will be limited in accordance with the law on emergency situations. Earlier, protesters (supporters of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, whose term ended on January 1, 2023) invaded the Congress and the presidential palace. The police are using special equipment to disperse the demonstrators, but so far to no avail.
Against this background, the current President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, announced the beginning of the intervention of federal troops in the country’s capital to suppress the rebellion.
It is also reported that Argentina and Chile have officially invited Brazil to send police special forces to the capital to help the Brazilian police in suppressing the unrest. And Venezuelan President Maduro called the coup attempt in Brazil a neo-fascist rebellion.
The Brazilian authorities promise to bring the perpetrators of the pogroms to the most severe responsibility. He also promised to attract those who sponsored vandalism and riots.
