Biologists for the first time managed to grow an embryo without sperm and egg

A group of researchers managed to obtain an embryo from stem cells, writes Nature. In nature, an animal embryo develops from an egg. Scientists at Cambridge University during experiments on rodents were able to break this pattern. Biologists experimented with three groups of cells. By regulating the expression of different sets of genes that are involved in the formation of the embryo, the specialists forced the sets of cells to self-organize into structures that go through the stages of embryonic development. The maximum age of the “fetus” has reached 8.5 days, the article says.
