The northern lights are observed in the sky of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Forecasters attributed this to a magnetic storm.
Eyewitnesses share photos of the phenomenon in social networks.
Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said that this was due to the onset of a magnetic storm. It will last until Monday. “April 23, 2023, a weak G1 level magnetic storm began on Earth,” he wrote in Telegram channel.
At the same time, according to the Institute of Applied Geophysics, the magnetic storm has intensified to a very strong G4 level (on a scale from G1 to G5). It is assumed that at this level there may be serious disruptions in radio communications, many hours of disruption of satellite and radio frequency navigation. Aurora borealis can be observed even in the tropics.
