The State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland issued an appeal to visitors, urging them to respect the memory of the prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp. It came after a photo of a tourist posing on social media, smiling and posing on the tracks used by the Nazis to bring people to the death camp.
The museum noted that such behavior offends many people, visitors should understand the seriousness of the place and show an appropriate level of respect and tolerance.
In addition, museum staff stressed that this is not the first time the museum has encountered inappropriate visitor behavior.
So, in January 2022, the police detained a Dutch tourist for a Nazi salute against the backdrop of a former concentration camp. She was accused of promoting Nazism and fined. The girl pleaded guilty and called her act “an ill-considered joke.”
