Journalist “Novaya Gazeta” Elena Milashina believes that the attack on her and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Grozny on July 4 is connected with the search for an employee of the Russian Guard, Yasin Khalidov, who disappeared 2.5 months ago after being detained in the Omsk region on the border with Kazakhstan.

Then the National Guard “disappeared without a trace.” According to Novaya Gazeta, Yasin Khalidov was persecuted by the Chechen police because of the transfer of secret data from the CPE and the Ministry of Internal Affairs databases to the administrators of the Adat Telegram channel*, Ibragim and Abubakar Yangulbaev. Ms. Milashina said that she had written a material about him, and lawyers Alexander Nemov and Alexander Karavaev went in search of the National Guard at the request of Chechen human rights activists.

On the morning of July 4, Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov arrived in Grozny for the announcement of the verdict on Zarema Musayeva. On the way from the airport they were attacked by unknown people. Alexander Nemov was stabbed in the leg, his passport and lawyer’s certificate were torn, and the instructions in the case of Musayeva, whom he was supposed to represent in court, were taken away. He was diagnosed with multiple hematomas and bruises. Yelena Milashina was forced to say the password to her iPhone, they beat her fingers, shaved her head, and doused her with green paint. She was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, multiple fractures of the hands, soft tissue bruises.
