At parting with Vakhtang Kikabidze, they again talked about the causes of his death

The coffin with the body was transferred to the Tbilisi Philharmonic

Today in Tbilisi they are preparing to send Vakhtang Kikabidze on his last journey. For two days they said goodbye to the artist in the church of Kashveti. The night before, after the civil memorial service, the coffin with the body of the legendary artist was transported to the local philharmonic society. It was placed in the center of the stage. Nearby are the closest people. Including the Georgian singer Liza Bagrationi. She told MK about how the farewell to Kikabidze goes.

– There were a lot of people in the church for two days, – says Bagrationi. – In the evening there was a memorial service, after which Vakhtang Konstatinovich was brought here, to the Philharmonic.

“Today the whole country will remember our beloved Buba,” Lisa continues. – And not only Georgians. I know that people come from Baku, and from Kazakhstan, and from Ukraine, and from Armenia – from all countries where he was loved and appreciated. Today is a difficult day for all of us – on the one hand. On the other hand, it gives us special feelings. We are all extremely happy that he was so loved and appreciated, we knew his price. This is a great happiness!

The sudden death of Kikabidze was a big surprise for the Georgians. Everyone knew that a few days before he left, he felt better. He came out of a coma and did not lose optimism.

– He was sick for a long time: he spent the New Year in the hospital, – Lisa continues. We hoped he would get better. We thought he’d pull through. He always knew how to return to life and to the stage. But this time it didn’t work. I personally spoke with him literally five days before leaving. He sang songs to me, he talked to me, ate cookies. Those were unforgettable moments! He smiled and asked me to share a cookie with the medical staff. He knew everyone in the hospital by name. He was very loved there, for the doctors his departure was a big blow. They hoped that they could get him back on his feet. We really expected that everything would be fine, that we would bring him home, despite all the sores. He suddenly left very calmly.

– What do the doctor’s say? What caused death?

He has been on dialysis for many, many years. He had very big kidney problems. It’s just that the body has exhausted its resources. He couldn’t fight anymore.

Kikabidze will be buried at the Veriysky cemetery in Tbilisi. The artist’s mother and his beloved wife, with whom he lived for sixty years, are buried there.
