At Lefortovo, prisoners complained of decreased vision

There are not enough ophthalmologists and light bulbs in the pre-trial detention center

Inmates of the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center complain that they are losing their vision in their cells due to poor lighting. At the same time, the ophthalmologist has not appeared in the isolation ward for several months.

As MK learned, relatives of prisoners who had “eye” problems began to contact Moscow human rights activists. During their stay in the detention center, the prisoners noticed that their vision was deteriorating. They cannot read the case materials – everything blurs before their eyes. An ophthalmologist could solve this problem – for example, prescribe glasses. Prisoners wrote requests to the pre-trial detention center administration to provide an ophthalmologist 4 months ago, some even earlier, but this did not bring any results. It is possible to see a civilian ophthalmologist at Lefortovo, but this requires the permission of the investigator who is leading the case, and most lawyers in uniform do not give their consent.

The absence of a doctor is aggravated by another problem: light bulbs in some cells burned out and were not replaced in time. One prisoner complains that he was forced to sit in virtual darkness for several days. There was enough daylight for literally 4 hours; the rest of the time the prisoners were in darkness or twilight.
