In Yekaterinburg, in honor of the 300th anniversary of the city, a granite slab was installed, on which the date of the city’s founding and the current year are inscribed. The object caused a mixed reaction among the townspeople, which is why they began to call it a “gravestone” on social networks.
The press service of the city administration told Kommersant that “all objects cause mixed reactions, especially among journalists.” “It’s gratifying that residents were able to learn for the first time the real configuration of the city’s districts. The one that is given in regional laws,” noted the mayor’s office. The authorities do not plan to change the appearance of the granite map.
The granite map was installed on Sunday, October 22, at the intersection of Lenin Avenue and Rabochaya Molodezhi Embankment. It depicts all eight districts of the city. On the government procurement portal indicated, that initially the mayor’s office offered to develop a design project, produce and install the map for almost 4 million rubles. However, the auction winner offered services for 1.38 million rubles.
The size of the granite map is 1.5 by 1.5 meters. It is made of Ural granite and granitoids. The object stands on a reinforced concrete base, lined with the same rock, measuring 1.3 by 1.3 meters.
