A memorial plaque about the poetess Anna Akhmatova has disappeared from one of the buildings of the former Kresty prison on Arsenalnaya Embankment in St. Petersburg.
How writes “Fontanka”, the board was located on the house number 7, letter K, where the main entrance, checkpoint and reception were previously located.
The publication indicates that at the end of May, the local UFSIN completely transferred the complex of buildings with a plot to the joint-stock company DOM.RF. It is expected that the property will be sold at auction, most of the funds received are planned to be transferred to the “Scientific and Production Association of the Penitentiary System.” At the time of publication of the message, the corporation did not provide journalists with comments, for what purpose the memorial plaque was removed and whether it will be returned to its place is unknown.
In the “Crosses” in the 1930s, the son of the poetess Lev Gumilyov was placed, who was declared an “enemy of the people.” Together with him, the third husband of Akhmatova, Nikolai Punin, was arrested. The poetess subsequently wrote that she spent 300 hours at the prison walls, hoping to give the package, but she was never accepted. Lines of Akhmatova’s poem “Requiem” are connected with “Crosses”.
