E1.RU: the examination did not find the doctors at fault in the death of the 37-year-old Ural journalist

An examination has established who is to blame for the death of a 37-year-old journalist from the Sverdlovsk region. Ekaterina Evlashina died in a Nizhny Tagil hospital in March 2023. E1.RU writes about this.

The publication recalled that a correspondent for the Mashinostroitel newspaper contacted the medical institution with complaints, first of pain in the chest, and then in the abdomen. She lost consciousness in the emergency room and died six hours later in intensive care.

It is reported that according to the examination, the main cause of death was duodenal ulcer with perforation. Before the tragic outcome, doctors assumed that the patient had bilateral lower lobe pneumonia.

According to the commission of forensic experts, the error in diagnosis could not affect the outcome due to the woman’s extremely serious condition: the predicted mortality rate for this condition was 89.5%.

In parallel with this, experts from the forensic medical commission identified a whole list of defects in the diagnosis and treatment of the journalist.

However, the development of septic shock associated with purulent peritonitis was recognized by experts as unpreventable.
