Amazon will invest $4 billion in generative AI – Kommersant

Today, the American online retailer Amazon announced about a strategic partnership with Anthropic, a company engaged in the development of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Anthropic was founded about two years ago by former employees of OpenAI, known for its acclaimed chatbot GhatGPT. Anthropic recently introduced its own chatbot, Claude 2, which Amazon now intends to use “to improve the quality of service for its customers.”
As part of the partnership, Amazon will invest $4 billion in joint AI developments with Anthropic and will receive an undisclosed minority stake in the company. Anthropic will also have access to semiconductors and other hardware developed by cloud specialists at Amazon (Amazon Web Services – AWS) and will develop generative AI for AWS customers.
The deal between Amazon and Anthropic is the latest in a series of agreements between generative AI developers and leading technology corporations. At the beginning of the year, Microsoft invested $10 billion to OpenAI, and in June Salesforce invested $250 million in AI developer Cohere.
