FAS filed a case against Megafon due to tariff increases

In this regard, the FAS opened a case against the company on grounds of violation of clause 1, part 1, article 10 of the law on the protection of competition (establishing and maintaining a monopolistically high or monopolistically low price for a product). If the company’s guilt is proven, the operator may face a fine of up to 1 million rubles. (Part 1 of Article 14.31 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).
The press service of Megafon explained to Vedomosti that they have not yet received an official notification from the department.
At the same time, the FAS recalled that in December 2022 the service conducted an investigation, as a result of which it recognized the rise in tariffs of two other operators as justified – Tele2 andBeeline” The department emphasized that the companies justified the increase in network costs.
In July, the Moscow Arbitration Court rejected complaints MTS and Megafon on the FAS decision on fines due to increased costs of services. In 2022, mobile operators unreasonably increased the cost of cellular services for more than 44.5 million subscribers under the pretext of increasing their own costs. The regulator considered that this decision violated the interests of consumers, ordered the return of previous tariff prices, and also imposed fines. After this, the operators went to court to appeal the decision, but the court sided with the FAS.
