The coach of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, Eteri Tutberidze, commented on the situation with the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify the athlete for four years for violating anti-doping rules. According to Mrs. Tutberidze, she “like no one else” wants to know how the drug entered Kamila Valieva’s body. She also noted that she only stands for “clean” sport.
“All my athletes were and remain clean, I am for clean sport, it cannot be otherwise. The samples have always been clean, I hope it stays that way. After two years, nothing became clear, the origin of this drug was never investigated, and a lot of questions remained,” wrote Eteri Tutberidze on the social network Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
On January 29, CAS decided to disqualify Kamila Valieva for four years, starting from December 25, 2021. On this day, the skater passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine. The court ruled that Kamila Valieva will be deprived of all competitive results and awards achieved in the period from December 25, 2021.
Kamila Valieva does not admit guilt. Her defense claims that trimetazidine was used by the athlete’s grandfather after heart surgery. Valieva herself believes that the drug entered her body due to the fact that she drank from the same mug as her grandfather.
