On the morning of Thursday, May 4, Muscovites began to complain en masse about interruptions in the operation of GPS navigation systems – due to the ban on drone flights over Moscow, problems with tracking someone in real time are possible. Meanwhile, the last, thoroughly digitalized decade has spoiled us – for example, a generation of motorists has already grown up who cannot drive around Moscow without a navigator. There is nothing to say about taxi drivers and couriers: the navigator is a working tool. How all these people survived clean – without digital support – Thursday, MK understood.

According to the official version, the GPS location change in Moscow was activated during the preparations for the May 9 Victory Parade. This means that navigators will incorrectly determine the geolocation of users. Navigation was jammed before, but before it happened only near the Kremlin – now all of Moscow is failing.

In general, observations diverge: whoever is lucky.

“There are problems inside the TTK, and even further towards the region. For example, Kutuzovsky is completely jammed to the Moscow Ring Road, it is impossible to move around without knowing the streets, and even knowing it, sometimes it’s impossible to file a car, the place of delivery also jumps. Colleagues have the same thing, our entire fleet went to rest and work for the TTK, they work there, ”shared one of the experienced Moscow taxi drivers.

According to him, the current situation will play into the hands of those who are ready to take passengers in the old way – “voting” on the road, and at the same time know the capital well.

Outside the contour of the Third Transport Ring, the situation is not so bad. At least we managed (as of 3:00 pm on May 4) to build a route from the editorial office of Moskovsky Komsomolets on 1905 Street home to two journalists – to the Zyuzino and Shchukino districts, using the navigator. But in an attempt to build a route to the Kremlin, the navigator became capricious and began to fail, offering very strange detour routes.

The bottom line is that the satellites are visible (I don’t know which ones, real or virtual), but none are used to determine the location. He stood for several minutes, waiting. If you disable the use of additional sources for determining the location in the android settings, the smartphone cannot determine the location. When turned on, it accurately (and quickly) finds the position and determines the movement along the street, ”another Muscovite shares his observations.

A typical arrogant answer of “old” motorists – they say, you just need to navigate in your hometown, then you won’t need a navigator! Previously, they somehow lived without them – and nothing.

It’s like that. However, there is one important nuance – the lion’s share of motorists today use the navigator not only to build a route, but also to follow the markings. A smart car is an excellent guide: it will always tell you which lane to drive in in order to make the necessary maneuver in time, where to find a place to turn around, where to wait for the camera and how much parking costs on the nearest street. In Moscow, where road signs and markings change very often (wham – and the street you know is already one-way!), even experienced drivers need such a “crutch”.

Plus, another indisputable advantage of the navigator is the ability to show traffic jams, the length and even the potential duration of traffic jams.

Meanwhile, not only motorists are tied to GPS systems, but also those who prefer means of individual mobility – bicycles and scooters, especially if you rent them: GPS tracking beacons are sewn into mini-transport.
