A Russian woman surviving in the Gaza Strip compared the situation with the siege of Leningrad: “Armageddon”

I contacted Yulia and another Russian woman on Friday morning. We couldn’t talk.

“We are running now, but we don’t know where,” one woman wrote.

And Julia disappeared. There was no contact for a day.

On Saturday morning she responded: “We spent the night in the Gaza central hospital.”

According to Yulia, there are now many Russians and Ukrainians in the hospital. Everyone is trying to stick together.

“On Friday, my husband’s cousin’s house was bombed next to us. 12 people died. We ran away in what we were wearing, only slippers,” says Yulia. — We have a car, we were thinking of moving south in accordance with the IDF directive. But they brought us back. Because the road along which civilians were walking began to be bombed. As a result, dozens died.

Julia tells how the night passed in the hospital.

— There are about 35 thousand people here. Everyone is sleeping, standing, lying on the floor or on the street near the hospital. All corridors, passages, approaches are filled with people. Armageddon!

Yulia says that there is water for now, but there is no food. And he immediately notices that for adults this is not yet a problem.

“To be honest, I don’t feel like eating.” We are in such shock that we exist on adrenaline alone. But I have a 10-month-old granddaughter in my arms. The mother has lost her milk and has nothing to feed the child. You can’t explain to the baby why there is no food. I remember the “Siege Book” by Adamovich and Granin, where they described how mothers fed their infants with their blood. We managed to grab baby formula, but my granddaughter still refuses to eat. I hope he will stop being picky out of hunger.

Julia sends me a video from the hospital grounds. People divided the site into sections and built sheds. The children, wrapped in blankets, can be seen huddled together on the tiny porch. White sheets are hanging on the clothesline, clothes are drying. “This is the view from our window,” explains the woman.

When asked if there is electricity in the hospital itself, the interlocutor answers in the affirmative.

“But the fuel will soon run out, and then everything will plunge into hell,” Yulia predicts.

According to the interlocutor, the evacuation is tentatively scheduled for Monday.

“But we have to somehow get to the border.” How to do this when there are no cars and the roads are bombed? We sit and think. We ask the consular staff about whether there will be buses or not. They are silent.

The problem is that the Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians who applied for evacuation are scattered throughout the Gaza Strip. Bringing everyone together is not easy.

“If I’m lucky and they organize transportation, I don’t even know what to go in.” We were running without things. Okay, adults, but my granddaughter will freeze, it’s cold in Moscow…

I reassure Yulia that they will definitely be taken care of in Moscow. At least they will provide you with warm clothes.

– Okay… I wish I could stay alive…

While we were talking, information appeared that the Israeli Defense Forces had opened new evacuation routes from the Gaza Strip for 6 hours, which will be in effect on Saturday until 16.00. They promised not to interfere with the movement of people.

“They wrote exactly the same thing on Friday.” And then they started bombing,” says Yulia. – I do not know what to do. It’s scary to go and scary to stay. We are afraid that tomorrow we will no longer be able to get out of here…
