“A person gets used to everything” – Kommersant FM

According to VTsIOM, more than half of the country’s citizens surveyed will celebrate the New Year in a good mood. At the same time, the number of obvious pessimists was halved. According to the results of other sociological studies, the level of anxiety of Russian citizens in the past year fell by half and almost returned to the values ​​of 2021. The main reason is the so-called routinization of military fears. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize hopes that in 2024 the mood of Russians will improve even more.

Overall, things have worked out relatively well for us this year. At least, this is what sociologists say. VTsIOM reports: 53% of fellow citizens say goodbye to the outgoing year and welcome the new year with a good mood and a sense of optimism. A year earlier, this figure was at 38%. This is not to say that the growth was too great, but the psychologically important mark of 50% was overcome. At the same time, every third person surveyed does not experience the above-mentioned optimism, but is not subject to negative emotions either. At the end of last year, 40% of respondents said this about themselves.

Previously, a communications company called CROS prepared a large report, according to which the level of anxiety of Russian citizens in the past year fell by half and almost returned to the values ​​of 2021. The main reason is the so-called routinization of fears associated with a special military operation in Ukraine. The place of military fears is slowly being filled by everyday ones. The latter vary depending on the region: in some places they are afraid of attacks by stray dogs, in others they are afraid of poisoning by intestinal infections, as well as alcohol. Further, and this may seem surprising, it turns out that our citizens are worried about the state’s fight against abortion.

Others will say: numbers are a deceitful thing. Look: there are more optimists, but they are not the majority, clearly not 90%. And this may not be entirely good if you look at the problem as a whole. Or here’s another example: there are 16 million poor now. On the one hand, it’s bad. On the other hand, in the 90s there were 40 million. And now the figure has taken on a different color.

As for anxiety, as you know, a person is a creature that gets used to everything. Moreover, our country is large; you can be far from the center of anxiety, or you can be closer to it. The problem is that you don’t know where the attack will come from. Either the dog will bite you, or you will be poisoned by hawthorn, or the legislator will make it so that everything will be impossible. And so, you see, the indicator floated in the wrong direction.

Anyway, enough of the barbs. There are successes, so let’s say it frankly: yes, 2023 is clearly better than the previous one. But he’s practically gone. So now the main thing is that in the coming 2024 the indicators do not let us down. But today hardly anyone can vouch for this. And this is the main challenge. It’s scary to think – there is no stability.
