The heat of Dubai is cited as a provoking factor. “MK” turned to neurologist Elena Belenko with the question: could the heat really cause such a condition?

“Theoretically, heat can provoke a stroke, but it will be as a trigger, because initially a person must have risk factors for developing a stroke. These include high blood pressure over a long period of time, that is, hypertension, as well as high levels of so-called bad cholesterol. This is a harbinger of the development of atherosclerosis, that is, blockage of blood vessels and arteries that prevents blood flow, and thrombosis can develop here. Smoking can also become a provoking factor, because it affects the properties of blood vessels; for the most part, they become spasmodic. Low physical activity, excess body weight and age can have an effect – after 60 years, the risks increase. The heat could cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbances, and atrial fibrillation, which, in turn, could cause a blood clot to break off, blocking a vessel supplying blood to the brain.

But there is also a hemorrhagic stroke, which is caused by rupture of arteries inside the brain when there is an arterial aneurysm. That is, it is a congenital pathology. And in the heat, this aneurysm can rupture and then hemorrhage will occur,” the specialist explained the possible causes of the stroke of Valya Carnival’s mother.

What to do in this case? Valya’s mother had convulsions, and the singer rubbed her to relieve the condition. We waited for an ambulance for 40 minutes. According to Belenko, in the case of a stroke, first of all, you need to direct your efforts to calling doctors for the victim as quickly as possible.

“We can’t do anything on our own here. It is clear that if a person is lying under the sun, in the heat, he needs to be placed in comfortable conditions, where there will be access to oxygen and a lower temperature. And immediately call an ambulance so that the person is taken to the hospital and determine what kind of stroke he has: ischemic or hemorrhagic, do an MRI of the brain, and understand what we are dealing with. If it is ischemic, then thrombolytic therapy can be carried out within three hours, when the clot can be resolved and a large area of ​​the brain can be saved. If a cerebral hemorrhage occurs, the person is urgently taken to surgery to close the vessel or remove the blood that has accumulated,” explained the candidate of medical sciences.

Judging by the fact that there was no surgery, Valya Carnival’s mother suffered an ischemic stroke. And although the ambulance took 40 minutes, the doctors managed to provide the necessary therapy on time.
