A meteorologist warned about the peculiarities of the emerging magnetic storm

On Thursday, March 21, a weak magnetic storm began on Earth. Its cause was a weak mass ejection that occurred on the Sun on March 17. Leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, Mikhail Leus, spoke about this.

As the expert wrote in his Telegram channel with reference to specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the ISTP SB RAS, the ongoing storm may turn out to be a prelude to a long series of large geomagnetic and flare events. They may occur in the next one to two weeks.

Leus warned that the next geomagnetic disturbance could be recorded as early as March 22, with increased levels of flare activity up to level X events expected over the next couple of weeks.

It was previously reported that until approximately noon on March 21, Moscow time, the strength of oscillations of the Earth’s magnetosphere was four points – this is typical for an average magnetic storm. Then the level dropped to three points (minor magnetic storm), and after 18 hours it even reached two points, which speaks of a neutral environment.
