The lieutenant colonel received 7 years in prison

The verdict of the former deputy commander of a separate traffic police battalion of the traffic police of the North-Eastern district, Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Bumbak, was handed down on Thursday by the Babushkinsky court of the capital. This is the third verdict against employees of this department, where the system of receiving bribes was established over several years. However, the officer himself believes that his subordinates slandered him.

As MK learned, the criminal tangle began to unravel in September 2021, when a certain Kuznetsov, a traffic police inspector of the North-East Administrative District, was detained for extorting a motorist. Quite quickly it became clear that over the years of “impeccable” service, he actually became an oligarch. 23 real estate properties were confiscated from an ordinary traffic cop, which he registered in the name of himself and his relatives (7 in the UAE and Bulgaria), as well as 23,850 euros, 60 thousand dollars and more than 48 million rubles. The inspector and his colleagues were taken seriously.

Soon two more law enforcement officers, Zimin and Nikulin, were detained. And in December 2021, it was Bumbak’s turn. One of the arrested traffic inspectors testified against his boss. Moreover, at first it was about the fact that all ordinary employees shared with the lieutenant colonel, so at first he was charged with bribery.

Then the version changed: allegedly, having learned about the arrest of his subordinates, the deputy commander promised to “get them out of trouble.” It was for this that he received a reward, although in reality, of course, he could not influence the course of the investigation.

The traffic inspectors were judged one by one, and 21 had their turn at Bumbak. The court sentenced him to 7 years in prison, stripped him of the rank of lieutenant colonel and banned him from holding positions in the police for three years after his release. The ex-chief of the order intends to appeal the verdict – he believes that the accusation was based only on the testimony of his employees.
