A bill to reduce the number of labor migrants was introduced to the State Duma

Seven deputies of the party “A Just Russia – For Truth” submitted to the State Duma a bill establishing a maximum number of migrants in different sectors of the economy. This is stated in card project in the electronic database of the State Duma.

“The bill proposes to establish a complete ban on attracting migrants to the most sensitive social spheres, in which unskilled labor of foreign workers can cause more harm than good,” says the explanatory note to the bill.

The document says that it is proposed to exclude foreign workers from activities related to the provision of medical services in government institutions and teaching children in schools. Citizens of other countries will also not be able to work in pharmacies, taxis and the trucking industry.

Deputies propose to establish an acceptable share of migrants – no more than 5% of the total number of employees in each area. The explanatory note states that the adoption of these decisions will “stop the increase in migrants” and will help provide Russian citizens with “additional jobs.”

In July, the legislative assembly of the Kaluga region submitted to the State Duma an initiative to “improve the procedure for migration registration.” Deputies proposed registering foreigners at their place of residence only if the required living area is met, in order to combat “rubber apartments.” However, the legal department of the State Duma issued a negative opinion on the initiative.
