23-year-old British woman Molly Jane Dougherty lay on the operating table a few hours after giving birth. The girl needed to have a giant tumor removed from her jaw, writes the Daile Mail.

In 2023, pregnant Molly began to complain of severe pain in her jaw. At first she thought it was because of a wisdom tooth and went to the dentist. They said she had an abscess.

The pain was so severe that the girl was taken to the emergency room, and after some time she was finally given an accurate and disappointing diagnosis – stage 2 osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

A combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy is usually used to treat the disease. However, doctors said they could not perform any intervention while Dougherty was pregnant – she was 37 weeks.

Fortunately, Molly eventually gave birth to her son safely and immediately went for further treatment. Several difficult operations were required. During the next intervention, her jaw was removed and her ear was temporarily cut off to gain access to the bone and remove the tumor. According to Molly, the tumor “was the size of a football.”

As a result, the operation was successful, although the tumor was not completely removed – the remnants were removed with the help of radiation and chemotherapy. Now doctors give a good prognosis and hope that, despite the very difficult case, the young mother will be able to make a full recovery.
