The first showcase tells about the Polytechnic Exhibition of 1872. It demonstrated the industrial, agricultural, military, scientific, technical and cultural achievements of the Russian Empire. The building was built specifically for the museum, its construction began in 1875 and was fully completed only in 1907. The third showcase tells how the science museum has become a space for any bright performances. A large auditorium in the North Building was originally designed for public lectures by scientists. But very quickly various creative people began to gather here: from poets to futurist artists. Sergei Yesenin, Alexander Blok, Anna Akhmatova, Mikhail Bulgakov, famous poets of the sixties performed in the Large Auditorium. The history of the Polytechnic Museum is closely intertwined with the development of science and technology. As a result of scientific discoveries and achievements, the collection was replenished, which already contains more than 200 thousand items. But the activities of the museum are not limited to the collection and storage of exhibits. Now the Polytechnic Museum implements many projects and programs that are relevant for the city and the country, conducts research, and participates in the publishing program. The fifth showcase is dedicated to the Open Collection of the Polytechnic Museum. Since 2014, the depository has been open to the public: anyone can sign up for a tour and look at the life of the museum from the inside. Some of the items can be viewed in detail online – with the support of the philanthropist Ruslan Goryukhin, the funds are being actively digitized. The showcase also contains a layout of the theremin, one of the unique exhibits of the museum’s collection, and a QR code with a recording of speeches by its inventor Lev Termen and his great-grandson Peter Termen.
