Zoologists told how to distinguish the game of cats from a fight

Zoologists from the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice and Lincoln University studied 105 episodes of interaction between domestic cats living in the same space and identified the key differences between games in the form of “joking” fights and real conflicts.
According to the publication in Scientific Reports, cats usually play “silently”, while the sounds they make are signs of aggression. Also, “real” fights are indicated by long periods during which cats freeze in threatening poses.
Cats chasing each other often spoke of a fight, but could also be an element of the game, especially if both animals alternately ran after each other.
According to zoologists, rare and isolated fights of cats, even if some aggression is read in them, can be ignored if the rest of the time the pets rub against each other, do not compete for food and greet each other with their ears up.
