Renat Karchaa, adviser to the head of the Rosenergoatom concern, refuted the statements of the Ukrainian side about the evacuation of employees of the Zaporozhye NPP. This was reported by the representative of Rosatom “Interfax”.
“Zaporozhye NPP is operating normally. We did not give such instructions to employees. No one is leaving anywhere,” said Mr. Karchaa. He added that such statements “seem to be nonsense”, but “in fact, these are quite meaningful steps to rock the situation, manipulate public opinion.”
According to Renat Karcaa, almost 4,000 people are currently working at the station, “some people periodically leave for the weekend, some go on planned vacations.”
The representative of Rosatom is sure that the purpose of the false statements is the creation of an “alternative virtual reality” against the backdrop of the preparation of “some kind of special operation.” “It is clear that they are preparing some kind of special operation, the purpose of which is a nuclear incident,” he said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that the station staff allegedly received instructions to leave for the Crimea until July 5. According to them, three employees of Rosatom and several employees of the station left ZNPP.
June 15, 2023 Zaporozhye NPP visited IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. His visit was connected with the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, since the Kakhovka reservoir ensured the operation of the station’s cooling pond. Since the same month, four IAEA inspectors have been permanently present at the station. Their duties, among other things, include monitoring the consequences of possible strikes near the station by Russia and Ukraine.
On June 30, Russia circulated in the Security Council (SC) and the UN General Assembly a letter urging them to prevent sabotage at the ZNPP. Ukraine holds drills to practice actions in case of an emergency at ZNPP.
