Podolyak said that Beijing will have to “distance” itself from Russia
Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said that China “will have to distance itself” from Russia if it wants to maintain its influence on the global economy.
He also said that Beijing could not decide on a position for more than a year: either work within the framework of international law and “completely replace Russia”, or stand aside and gradually lose its influence on the world economy.
Along the way, Podolyak called on the Chinese authorities not to take part in the Russian military-industrial complex and not to act as Moscow’s “information or diplomatic agent.”
On Wednesday, April 26, Chinese media reported on a telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Zelensky. Later, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said that the dialogue took place on the initiative of Kyiv.
During a conversation with Zelensky, Xi Jinping said that China is in favor of an early ceasefire in the conflict zone.
