Following the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Telegram faced threats from members of both the US Democratic and Republican parties. This information was revealed by Pavel Durov, one of the creators of the popular messenger, in interview Tucker Carlson.
Durov said that he first received a demand from Democrats to provide all data related to the incident at the Capitol. The letter noted that the refusal was considered a violation of the US Constitution.
He later received a letter from members of the Republican Party saying that sharing information with Democrats was also a violation of the Constitution.
“Thus, we are faced with two letters emphasizing that any of our actions will be a violation of the US Constitution,” Durov concluded.
