President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky explained the slow pace of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the weather conditions and the delay of artillery.
He made the corresponding statement in an interview with foreign media, RTVE reports.
He acknowledged that the plans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to launch a counteroffensive against Russia have slowed down in recent months.
“The heavy rains have been going on for a very long time and this has slowed down some processes,” he said.
According to him, Ukraine needed a result in the counteroffensive.
“We were counting on certain things, but the artillery arrived late. We stopped because we couldn’t move on. Moving forward meant losing people, and we had no artillery,” Zelensky said and once again asked for more weapons.
According to him, Ukraine wants to show results on the battlefield before the NATO summit. “Before the summit, we have to show results, but every meter is worth a life,” he said.
The long-announced counter-offensive began on June 4 in the Yuzhnodonetsk, Zaporozhye and Artyomovsk directions, with the main attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine concentrated on the Zaporozhye sector of the front. President Vladimir Putin announced the huge losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the absence of success in any of the areas. On Saturday, the British newspaper Times reported that the Ukrainian military was “disappointed” due to inflated expectations from the UAF counteroffensive.
