President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of the Turkish company Baikar, which produces Bayraktar drones, Ukrainian media reported.

As reported, Bayraktar was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit, I degree, he arrived in Kyiv in person. Zelensky and Bayraktar discussed the details of the construction of a plant for the production of drones in Ukraine, the report said.

In 2018 to 2020, Ukraine imported Turkish TB2 Bayraktar strike drones. After that, in Ukraine, under an agreement with Ankara, they began their own production of this drone, but the details were not announced. Last month, the Kyiv ambassador to Turkey said that the Baikar company, for the construction of a plant in Ukraine to produce its drones, had already registered and bought a piece of land. The Kremlin said that if an enterprise for the production of Turkish drones appears in this neighboring country, it is subject to demilitarization.

Earlier, Igor Kirillov, head of the troops for radiation, chemical and biological protection of the RF Armed Forces, said that on December 15, 2021, Ukraine sent a request to the Turkish manufacturer of Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles about the possibility of equipping this drone with “systems and mechanisms for spraying aerosols with a capacity of more than 20 liters.” According to him, Bayraktar UAVs, which Kyiv asked to be equipped with a device for spraying chemicals, pose a threat to Russia.
