Now only 3% of Ukrainian grain is supplied to the poorest countries, this volume should be increased. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at an operational meeting with permanent members of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

“We still consider it right to increase deliveries to the poorest countries. I would ask our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to proceed from this, ”Putin said (quote according to TASS).

He clarified that at the moment 60,000 tons of grain reach the poorest countries, which is 3% of the total volume of food exported from Ukraine by sea. The Russian leader stressed that Russia is monitoring the supplies, but cannot influence “the direction of this grain.”

Earlier, during the Eastern Economic Forum, the President of Russia proposed to limit the export of grain from the blocked ports of Ukraine to the EU countries. He said that the grain is mainly sent not to the developing poorest countries, but to the EU. According to him, this situation threatens a humanitarian catastrophe.

Putin also said that he would consult with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on this issue. Erdogan the next day agreed with Putin’s statement and confirmed that the grain does not really go to African countries, as was originally supposed, but to rich countries. According to the Turkish leader, the President of the Russian Federation is concerned that the grain goes to those countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia.
